Long after the age when most horses retire, 20-year-old chestnut overo
gelding Hesa Super Cajun seems to have no such plans. In 2009, he and
13-year-old Madison Malsch of Castle Rock, Colorado, traveled to 10 states
competing in a long list of English and Western classes that would wear out
younger horses and older riders. Along the way, they earned 1,107 points, making
Madison APHA’s 2009 Number 1 Youth in the 13 & under division.
But for Madison, the greatest satisfaction didn’t come from winning a year-end
title—it came from loving the horse who still loves his job. |
