Shortly after a group of Paint Stock Horse enthusiasts put their horses on display at a major livestock show, the same faction formed a breed registry and hosted its first approved event.

 As detailed last month, the American Paint Stock Horse Association—predecessor of the American Paint Horse Association—came into being on February 16, 1962, in a small motel in Gainesville, Texas. The new breed registry was formed by a small group of northern Texas and southern Oklahoma Paint Horse enthusiasts who had competed in several Pinto Horse Association-sanctioned events the previous year.
