Shortly after a group of Paint Stock Horse enthusiasts put their
horses on display at a major livestock show, the same faction formed a breed
registry and hosted its first approved event.
As detailed last month, the American Paint Stock Horse
Association—predecessor of the American Paint Horse Association—came into being
on February 16, 1962, in a small motel in Gainesville, Texas. The new breed
registry was formed by a small group of northern Texas and southern Oklahoma
Paint Horse enthusiasts who had competed in several Pinto Horse
Association-sanctioned events the previous year.
