Digital Specifications

Following are the digital specifications for customer- and agency-submitted ads.

Failure to adhere to these specifications may result in the ad materials being returned for revisions.

Pay close attention to the sizes in the rate card when creating your ad. Live area for a full-page is 7" x 10". Physical page (trim) size is 8.125" x 10.875". Bleeds must extend at least one-eighth inch from edge of physical page.

Line screen is 150.

Delete all non-printing elements from your document such as text boxes on the Quark Xpress pasteboard.

Place photos in Quark Xpress and Adobe PageMaker; do not embed them. Do not place photos into Illustrator or FreeHand.

Photoshop files and color scans must be in CMYK format. Any other color gamut is unacceptable. Save files as TIFF or EPS. Do not use the DCS format.

Corel Draw files are unacceptable.

Any artwork created in an illustration program must have all text converted to paths.

All colors used in the document must by defined as CMYK process colors. Spot colors must be converted. RGB colors are not acceptable.

Use only Type 1 PostScript fonts and include both the printer font and the font suitcase when submitting your ad. TrueType fonts are unacceptable.

Along with the digital file, submit a digital color proof (for color ads), or a high-resolution monochrome laser print (for black and white ads). Acceptable color proofs include: Iris proofs (with Graphic Arts inks), Kodak Approvals, Imation Rainbows, Dupont Waterproofs, Polaroid Dryjets or Epson Stylus 5000 prints. Always print proofs at 100% of actual size with crop marks.

Submit the ad on floppy, Zip disk, Jaz cartridge or CD-ROM.

Before sending, scan for viruses with an up-to-date virus scanning program. If we detect a virus, your media may be returned to you for virus removal.

You may not e-mail ad materials. Image files of proper resolution are too large.

We are not responsible for the color or quality of ads submitted digitally or on film.
