very horse owner eventually faces that time when he or she must say “good-bye” to a great friend and valued companion.

Many horses slip quietly away, with no prior warning to their owners. Other horses give owners more time to ­prepare for their passing as their health slowly declines. ­Finally, some horses must be humanely euthanized due to a traumatic injury or debilitating illness.

No matter the reason, a horse crossing over the ­“rainbow bridge” forces owners to make difficult ­decisions during this emotional time. To help ease the duress owners will face after their horse passes away, it is essential to plan ahead.
